Project Jolt Launch – Media Reports

Project Jolt (Joint Operators Logistics Trial) was officially launched at an event hosted by Nestle in York on 26th March, 2025.

More than 20 organisations are combining their resources to find the answers and unlock the transition to electric road freight. See Project Jolt website.

For the next two years the project will gather, analyse and report extensive data to evidence the commercial and operational impact of electrification on fleets. At the launch, project lead, Prof David Cebon explained that fleet operators are coming to terms with cost, payload and range, which all affect the business case for electric lorries. They are interested to learn more about how to run EV fleets profitably for a wide range of UK logistics operations; battery performance degradation; charging strategies; how to manage the transition to EVs and a variety of other technical and economic questions. A major concern that is starting to surface is how to provide electricity supply connections for high-power charging infrastructure. All of these issues will be investigated in the project.
