Thomas Whitney (PhD Student)

Thomas S Witney is based at the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight at the University of Cambridge.

His research project focuses around the analysis of on-road, cold-start, and other important emissions of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) and their Transportation Refrigeration Units (TRU).  The John Lewis Partnership has introduced these bio-methane vehicles with an electrified fridge, in an effort to reduce the fleet-wide emissions of CO2 and NOx along with other noxious and harmful vehicle pollutants.  As a part of this project, the CNG vehicle with TRU will be tested and compared to the normal diesel vehicles and fridges.
