Dr Allan Woodburn is a Principal Lecturer in Freight Transport and Logistics at the University of Westminster. He has been working in freight transport research and consultancy for more than 25 years. Allan completed his PhD in 2000, which focused on the role of logistical structure in the development of rail freight services in Great Britain. For 13 years, he was Course Leader for the internationally focused MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management course.
Allan’s expertise relates primarily to rail freight policy and operations, though he has been involved in many other freight and logistics projects, giving him a detailed understanding of freight mode choice within the supply chain. Key projects have included measuring and understanding rail freight operational efficiency and sustainability, trend analysis of the British rail freight market, and the suitability of different types of freight flows to transfer from road to rail.
