A new article in Motor Transport profiles Justin Laney, Fleet Manager at the John Lewis Partnership (JLP), and his achievement in cutting transport carbon emissions by 50% since 2018 through a major shift to bioCNG and early adoption of electric vehicles. The feature highlights Laney’s deep engineering approach and the role of his long-running collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight (SRF).
SRF research has directly shaped several of JLP’s technology decisions—from early work with Cambridge engineers to identify methane slip issues in dual-fuel trucks and to improve aerodynamic performance, to ongoing modelling of electric HGV performance and infrastructure needs. JLP is an active participant in Project JOLT, SRF’s large-scale electric truck trial to understand real-world commercial viability.
This partnership has enabled JLP to base its strategy on rigorous engineering evidence, supporting its progress toward eliminating fossil fuels from its fleet by 2030.
