European Social Simulation Association Distinguished Dissertation Award 


Congratulations to Dhanan Utomo from (Heriot Watt University) on winning the European Social Simulation Association’s Distinguished Dissertation (ESSA) Award in social simulation. His PhD research entitled “Improving and Comparing Data Collection Methodologies for Decision Rule Calibration in Agent-Based Simulation. A Case Study of Dairy Supply Chain in Indonesia” (https://eprints.lancs.ac.uk/id/eprint/137035/1/2019utomophd.pdf) was judged to have made significant methodological contributions for agent-based modelling and simulation. Dhanan’s research has proved especially helpful in understanding how we can elicit behavioural data from real world actors. 

 

The  (ESSA) promotes the development of social simulation research, education and application in Europe. 

 

Dhanan is currently applying his skills to decarbonising logistics in  

Heriot Watt’s Centre for Sustainable Road Freight
